Bima Lokpal

I found some useful information in a local newspaper (ABP) regarding the usefulness of Bima Lokpal. Here I am sharing this article to spread about this more and more. Bima means insurance. This Bima Lokpal or Ombudsman will help people who felt cheated or any complaint related insurance policy or the company. You can contact them and file your query. For every state or by grouping few states, several Bima Lokpal operates in India. I found the list of Bima Lokpal offices India here.

But before filling your complain, you have to know whether your complain or issue can be addressed by Bima Lokpal team or not.

Bima Lokpal will help in 4 cases if anyone files a complaint.

1) If insurance company denied to pay the full or partial amount of insured amount.
2) In case company delayed in issuing the amount.
3) In case you have not received all documents, even though you have paid the premium.
4) In case you have been misguided with the premium amount.
If your problem is also any of the above one, you can contact Bima Lokpal team. Now let’s see the things to note before filling a complaint to Bima Lokpal Team.
1) If you have any issue with your insurance policy, then it’s better to file complaint by yourself only. You can also take help from your family members. But you cannot complain by an advocate or an insurance agent.
2) Your insurance policy amount should be under 20 lacs. Bima lokpal cannot help you if your policy amount is greater than 20 lacs.
3) Write your complaint in a plain white paper and mail to their address. You can also fax them the complaint letter.
4) First try to contact your insurance company service section and file your complaint there. If you did not receive any reply with in 1 month or the reply does not match with your expectation, then only contact Bima Lokpal.
5) Keep all necessary documents and complain letter with you as proof of contacting your insurance company. These documents will be required later on.
6) After receiving your application Bima Lokpal team will generally solve your problem within 3 months time. But in some cases more time taken.
So don’t worry about in case you found your insurance company is trying to play with you. Simply visit your nearest Bima Lokpal office and file your complaint. Kindly correct me if any information is wrongly updated here. Your comments will be highly appreciated.

  1. How much time taken by Bima lok pal to resolve the matter. I had applied on 4th July,16. Deposited all documents on 14th July and gone for a personal hearing on 9th Aug, 2016.
    Till date, nothing has been ordered.

  2. my father have medical policy with religare health insurance co. after 2 years locking period they can’t accept to reimbursement of claim amount
    they told us that we can’t gave him correct information about debitece and hypertension illness but all the information are given by us to adviser

    I received a call from Mr. Dinesh verma,he dialled me from +919212999887 informing me that JEEVAN BEEMA LOKPAL KENDRA and told me that you have a policy from Max Life with my correct Policy Number. If you want to draw your money through the Insurance company itself they . Only thing is to remove the agent code from your policy and asked me to send 2 nos. of Photo,Address proof,P.A.N. card, Adhar card, Residence proof, Address proof and xerox of first page of Insurance paper.And then after call me from Jeevan Bimal Lokap Account Department Mr.Amit Bhardwaj told me that your policy amount and Bonus And benefit amount Rs 351000/- I donot understand.

  4. Dear Santanu thank you for such a wonderful blog. It was very enlightening and informative. I had a query and if you could help me with it,I’d be very grateful to you. Recently I had a hearing with Hon’ble Ombudsman UP Noida for a fraud case by ICICI where they took money saying it as an FD deposit but instead made some policies out of it without consent and fake phone numbers and signatures (icici pru life). During the hearing, the Ombudsman officer without asking any questions or not even bothering to look at the proofs I had collected dictated a decision that my money be returned to me to which the company had no issues. However,when I asked him for the interest that accrued on it for five years, plus penalty of fraud charges and harassment and expenditure that I had to bear because of this. He outrightly refused that I should be thankful that I got my original sum back and its beyond his jurisdiction to give me that sum. Now my question is that after I receive the original amount (a settlement with the company) is it possible for me to take this case to a higher court or consumer court for the I terest and penalty charges we deserve since the money they embezzelled had been with them for 5-6 years.

  5. I HV RECD CALL FROM DELHI AND THE SAME STRAGEGY OF LOAN.
    I HV COMPLAINT WITH FGI AND PROVIDED THEM RECORDING ETC.
    THEY ARE JUST SAYING TO GO TO OMBUDSMAN.

    NOW I HV RECD CALL FROM BIMA LOKPAL MR. VINIT AND AJAY SHRIVASTAVA(SENIOR OF MR. VINIT). THEY INFMD THAT THEY CAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY ARE ASKING TO DEPOSIT 15K AND THEY WILL INFM THE DETAILS WHERE TO DEPOSIT ETC.

    ARE THESE THE CORRECT PERSON.

  6. I got a call from Delhi saying that they are calling from ICICI bank and providing loan against insurance. As I was in urgent need of loan, I believed them and bought a policy of Bajaj Allianz. They said my loan will be processed within 45 days and asked me to send few documents. Unfortunately it did not happened. I lost hope of getting my Rs.40K back which I paid for Bajaj Life Long Assured plan. Today I got a call from Bima Lokpal Mr. Atul Mehra Mob: I got a call from Delhi saying that they are calling from ICICI bank and providing loan against insurance.   7. Hi, my father too have received a call from someone who claims to be working with jeevan beema lokpal who stated that my father has a leftover bonus from his life insurance which he will get if he pays 30k upfront, and starts a policy with exide insurance.
    We both knew it was a scam, so we took his name, number – Rakesh Mishra, 09210561028 – and contacted our insurer. They confirmed our doubts, so people please be aware of such calls and callers

He said, I have to pay another 20K which will become 60K and they will break my policy into 3 years of some other Insurance Policy. I am sure he will not send. But I want to take appropriate action against all. But I dont want to waste my time through police because I am sure I will not get any support. Please advice me.

    • I don’t think in the first case you can do anything, as you have been convinced. You may raise a grievance regarding mis-selling of insurance plan.
      Regarding the second problem, I think you can raise a complaint about them but don’t expect much. I am not sure how quickly you will get justice in such cases in our country.
      But you should raise a grievance to concerned department whenever possible.

I received a call from Mr. Mohanlal Sharma,he dialled me from +919212999887 informing me that JEEVAN BEEMA LOKPAL KENDRA and told me that you have a policy from Max Newyork Life with my correct Policy Number. He told me that your Policy has been stopped. If you want to draw your money through the Insurance company itself they will deduct 50% from your Maturity amount. If you want to take it from us there will be no deduction will be made. Only thing is to remove the agent code from your policy and asked me to send 2 nos. of Photo,Address proof,P.A.N. card, Adhar card, Residence proof, Address proof and xerox of first page of Insurance paper.

  10. Hi, I received a call from Rajesh Sharma (+919212305200) claiming to be from Bima Lokpal. He asked for some details about the insurances on account of my parent. But I dont know whether he was genuine or fake. How to know that ? Please assist..

I received a call from mr.Avinash Misra ( 08285221318 ),he dialled me from +911409804352,4346,4075 informing me that BHARTIYA BEEMA LOKPAL KENDRA has alloted me Rs.173550.00 Bonus Fund against IMC code 0392771MI and asked me to send Photo,Address proof,P.A.N. card along with demand draft of Rs.30000.00 registration charges in favour of Indian Value Card and asked to contact Mr. R.P.SinghRandhawa at 8459079158.

    • They are trying to cheat you for Rs 30,000/-. Immediately file Police Complaint against these people since you have acted intelligently to note down their names & phone nos.
      Lokpal registers complaints against defaulting insurance companies . It does not go about distributing bonus.
      You can also send a complaint by email to Economics Offence Wing.

      Ask your Insurance Co. if any bonus is due to you against your Policy and why they have not contacted you by a written letter. Take their help too to file complaint against these fraudsters. Take action against your Insurance Co for leaking out your phone no. to the fraudster.

        I too did asked strictly, how my information about policies were leaked from them.
        Even cc to IRDA. But nothing happend just same typical apologies format.

    • I also received a call from Mr Rahul Agarwal ( 07065990302 ) from mumba . He introduced me with sweta Agarwal from Hydrabad . Both of them introduced themselves that they are employees of BiMA LOKPAL . Their counseling ability is wonderful but I think they are fraud . I think people who are facing problem or feel cheated from a particular insurance company , they should file a complaint to their territorial office of BIMA LOKPAL .
