Increasing number of Punjabi movies are not only doing great in the domestic markets but also raking in the moolah overseas. The larger-than-life characters with equally entertaining music make Punjabi movies full of great entertainment and fun. While the Punjabi movies are not really realistic or message-driven, they do make up for this fact with their bold acting and high energy.

Owing to the increasing popularity of these movies, the directors too have slowly started experimenting with the storyline which has paid off big time in the past couple of years. 1. Mr. & Mrs. 420 Returns

The second installment of the widely popular Mr.  & Mrs. 420 which released in 2014 is slated to release on 15th August this year. Aptly titled as Mr. & Mrs. 420 Returns, the film is expected to be a laugh riot just like its prequel. The movie features top stars like Jassie Gill, Ranjit Bawa, Gurpreet Guggi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Payal Rajput and Karamjit Anmol, making it a must-watch for people who love romantic-comedy movies.

2. Banjara: The Truck Driver

While actors playing double-roles is pretty common, Banjara: The Truck Driver has the popular Babbu Maan playing a triple role. Releasing on 14th September, the movie is set in three different eras- 1947, 1984 and 2018 with Babbu Maan playing the role of a truck driver in all the eras. Apart from Maan, the movie also stars Malkit Rauni, Rana Ranbir, Shraddha Arya, and Gurpreet Bhangu among others.

3. Marriage Palace

From Oye Hoye Pyar Ho Gaya in 2013 to Nikka Zaildar 2 in 2017, Sharry Mann has turned into one of the most popular actors in the Punjabi movie industry. Marriage Palace is his first release in 2018 which would hit the theatres on 28th September. The movie also features Payal Rajput, BN Sharma, Umang Sharma, and Jaswinder Bhalla. While nothing much is known about the movie yet, its poster suggests that it’d be themed around marriage with a lot of quirkiness.

4. Afsar

Afsar teams up a unique pair in the form of Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira which makes it one of the highly anticipated Punjabi movies of 2018. The movie is helmed by the debutant director Gulshan Singh and would be releasing on 5th October. Not much is known about the movie’s plot but as Tarsem Jassar is known to work in movies which have a lot of substance, it is expected to be one of the best movies of 2018.

5. Prahuna

While Kulwinder Billa is already a very popular Punjabi music artist, his fans have been waiting for him to entertain them on the big screens too. Their dream finally came true with Subhedar Joginder Singh which released in April this year. But there is more for his fans. Prahuna, a romantic-comedy with Kulwinder Billa and Wamiqa Gabbi is releasing later this year. Gabbi was also seen in Kulwinder’s song “Angreji Wali Madam” which became very popular. The movie would be fighting Afsar at the box-office on 5th October.

6. Ranjha Refugee

It has been a great year for Roshan Prince with two super-hit blockbusters Subhedar Joginder Singh and Lavan Phere. Ranjha Refugee is his third movie this year and would hit the theatres on 26th October. The comedy-drama also has Saanvi Dhiman, Nisha Bano, Harby Sangha, and Karamjit Anmol. 7. Bhai Jaita

Gippy Grewal plays the role of Baba Jiwan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji), a renowned Sikh General and a dear friend of Guru Gobind Singh in Bhai Jaita which is expected to release in November/December this year. The movie has Tanvi Nagi in the female lead and it is directed by Simarjit Singh. A movie based on such an inspiring warrior and poet is sure to strike a chord with the audiences.

8. Carry on Jatta 3

The cast of Carry on Jatta announced the 3rd installment of the franchise as soon as the shooting for the 2nd installment was completed in 2017. The Gippy Grewal-starrer comedy movie is expected to have the same stars of Carry on Jatta 1 and 2 and its shooting is expected to begin in 2019. The movie will release in the same year, however, nothing is known about the story as of yet.

9. Lavan Phere 2

Lavan Phere was one of the biggest hits of 2018 and the team is planning to bank upon the massive following the movie has generated with the second installment in 2019. While the sequel will also feature Roshan Prince, nothing much is known about other stars of the movie. The shooting for Lavan Phere 2 is expected to begin by the end of 2018.

10. Manje Bistre 2

Manje Bistre, the musical drama which released in 2017 with Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in the lead was a major hit on the box-office. The team is already working on the sequel to the movie and Gippy recently also released a video on Facebook where he and his team were searching for a location to shoot a song for Manje Bistre 2. The movie is expected to release in April 2019, however, the date is not finalized yet.
